Getting ready: tips for the day of your mammogram

As you prepare at home on the day of your mammogram, follow these useful tips.

  • Get your proof of identification, including your address and your health insurance card.
  • Do not apply deodorant or any other products to your underarms, chest or breasts on the day of the mammogram.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit, as you will remove your top and bra for the mammogram.
  • Choose flat, comfortable shoes because the images are done while standing.
  • Do not wear necklaces or long earrings.
  • Eat and take medication as normal.
  • Consider taking over-the-counter pain medication before your mammogram, if you’ve experienced discomfort in the past or are concerned about it.
